LinkedIn Engineering Manager
LinkedIn Marketing Solution Engineering Manager
Will share with audiences some of the best practice on how to build effective team and become leader of leaders. Each company in silicon valley has its own DNA, signature or culture. LinkedIn has been listed within top 10 “best companies to work for” for many years. Based on my observation and personal experiences being software engineer, tech lead and engineering manager, I would summarize and highlight several key take-aways in the area of team building and culture cultivation.
What makes a productive and innovative team? What makes engineers happy? What company culture encourages fast and sustainable growth?
-Fast fail and lightweight prototyping
-Small team and close collaborations within core functional roles: eng manager/leader, product manager, designer, and technical program manager.
-Intelligent risk and venture bets
-Craftsmanship vs. executions, i.e., quality vs. speed
-Sustainable growth: research and psychological safety
-5 levels of leadership
-Diversity and inclusions
Engineer managers and team/company leaders can benefit the most from this talk.
Every team, org, or company’s culture is set by the core team or the initial funding members. Healthy culture will eventually drive innovations, productiveness and attract talents, which will yield profitability and market shares.
I have witnessed the growth of LinkedIn from startup to IPO to big company and acquired by Microsoft (not yet but later by year end). Myself has grown from junior software engineer to engineering manager of a high profile team. There are many valuable experiences and lessons learned the hard way, which I would like to share with audience.
